Respiratory plasticity during acclimation to hypoxia and following a recovery in normoxia

چکیده

Phenotypic plasticity manifested after acclimatization is a very important source of biological variability among fish species. We hypothesized that hypoxic acclimation, besides potentially generating temporary respiratory phenotype, would also manifest as continued benefit reacclimation to normoxia. Hence, we holistically characterized the phenotype European sea bass ( Dicentrarchus labrax (Linnaeus, 1758)) acclimated normoxia with or without prior acclimation hypoxia. Compared original normoxic hypoxia and return produced 27% higher absolute aerobic scope (AAS), 24% citrate synthase activity in red muscle, 28% lower excess post exercise O 2 consumption. Additional testing hypoxia-acclimated under explored specific effects acclimation. The when compared had standard metabolic rate, better performance, minimum PO for supporting 50% AAS. Thus, allows improve its maximum capacity returning from potential exploiting habitat. Given this malleability, general predictions marine more future should consider prolonged exposures.

Differential Contribution of Pacemaker Properties to the Generation of Respiratory Rhythms during Normoxia and Hypoxia

Pacemaker neurons have been described in most neural networks. However, whether such neurons are essential for generating an activity pattern in a given preparation remains mostly unknown. Here, we show that in the mammalian respiratory network two types of pacemaker neurons exist. Differential blockade of these neurons indicates that their relative contribution to respiratory rhythm generation...

Neurones to Normoxia and Hypoxia

1. Exposure of 10 R3-R13 neurones to a 115-min period of hypoxia resulted in depolarization of their membrane potentials (EM) from a mean of -46-9 ± 3-1 to-20-8 ± 4-4mV (S.E.). 2. Intracellular potassium ion activities (a^) decreased significantly from 118-9 ± 5 1 to 67-7 ± 8-5rnM-K. This is equivalent to a change in EKirom — 70-9 mV to —54-5 mV, which is insufficient to account for depolarizat...

Chemoreceptor plasticity and respiratory acclimation in the zebrafish Danio rerio.

The goals of this study were to assess the respiratory consequences of exposing adult zebrafish Danio rerio to chronic changes in water gas composition (hypoxia, hyperoxia or hypercapnia) and to determine if any ensuing effects could be related to morphological changes in branchial chemoreceptors. To accomplish these goals, we first modified and validated an established non-invasive technique f...

Heat acclimation and cross tolerance to hypoxia

Recent research has suggested a potential for some of the physiological and cellular responses to heat acclimation to carry over to improved tolerance of the novel stresses of another environment. This cross-tolerance is evident in heat-acclimated animals that exhibit enhanced tolerance to either hypoxic or ischemic stress, and is primarily attributed to shared cellular stress response pathways...
